2016 Summer Training Seminar For Social Science Teachers

THE ANNUAL CSSP SUMMER EXTRAMURAL PROGRAM

The University of the Philippines Diliman College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) annual extramural program aspires to promote a cosmopolitan mind-set, combine the values of for depth of knowledge and disciplinary specialization, and improve confidence-building and capacity-building of secondary education nationwide.

The 2016 Summer Training Seminar for Social Sciences Teachers from April 13 to 15, 2016 with the Theme #Senior High: Sino Ba Sila? seeks to
enhance understanding of current concepts, perspectives and methodologies in the different social science disciplines;
  1. provide insights to the characteristics and interests of the incoming students for Grades 11 and 12;
  2. help develop teaching methodologies that will enhance the learning experience of the Grades 11 and 12 students;
  3. tackle relevant social, cultural, political, and economic issues and topics that may contribute to an enhanced teaching experience;
  4. and develop increased capacities in social science research and education for knowledge generation relevant to the country and global community
This year’s training is designed to help social science teachers to further understand their Senior High students. While the theme seems to be more focused primarily on students in the Grades 11 and 12 and therefore is of more concern to those teaching secondary education, the lectures and discussions will also impact the teaching methodologies and content of prerequisite courses at the primary level and GE courses at the tertiary level. In this context, this year’s program will be equivalently relevant to those teaching at the primary and tertiary level.
