The Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Dr. Grace H. Aguiling-Dalisay, served as keynote speaker in the First Colleges and University Public Service Conference (CUPSCon1) held on 26-27 November 2015 at the University of the Philippines Open University, Los Baños, Laguna. An advocate of public service, and the woman behind Pahinungod, Dean Aguiling- Dalisay shared information on the state of public service in the UP and other universities in the country. She also shared actual experiences and struggles of mainstreaming extension work.
Representatives from the CSSP Office of Service-Learning, Outreach-Pahinungod (Mr. Vonn Golfo) with Associate Dean for Administration and External Affairs Herman Joseph S. Kraft, the CSSP National Service and Training Program (NSTP Coordinator Arlyn P. Macapinlac and Prof. Engelbert Prim) with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Ma. Theresa T. Payongayong, and the Department of Geography (Department Chair Daniel Mabazza, who presented his paper together with Mr. Kevin Vega) also attended the two-day conference.
The CUPSCon1 brought together higher education institutions (HEIs) who are engaged in community and public service. It enabled HEIs to share their experiences in implementing policies or projects that benefit sectors outside their respective college/university community especially in government, the private sector especially the small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), civil society including non-government and people’s organizations, marginalized/underserved communities, and the general public.
The conference was supported by the Office of the President of the University of the Philippines, the Office of the Dean of UP Cebu, the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs of UP and organized through the cooperation of UP Cebu Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod, UP Visayas Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod, UP Open University Information Office, UP Mindanao Office of Extension and Community Services and the University of the Philippines Padayon Public Service Office.
