Published on 09 March 2017

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), together with student organizations UP PRO CSSP and the CSSP Student Council (CSSPSC), held its annual CSSP Open House on February 25, 2017 at the Palma Hall Room 207 from 8:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon. Other partner student organizations in cooperation with CSSP-OSA were the University of the Philippines Psychological Understanding for Growth and Distinction Society (UP PUGAD Sayk) and the University of the Philippines Kabataang Pilosopo Tasyo (UP KaPiTas).

CSSP Open House 2017 was an event intended to introduce and welcome the incoming freshmen accepted into the University of the Philippines-Diliman and, more specifically, into CSSP. It was the most well-attended open house event with over 100 participants.

The program began with the opening remarks given by College Secretary Rowena Q. Bailon, PhD. Dr. Bailon congratulated and welcomed the future students of CSSP as the cream of the crop within the country, having passed the nationally competitive University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).

A welcome message followed which was delivered by Dean Grace H. Aguiling-Dalisay, PhD. Dean Aguiling-Dalisay introduced the college through its mission-vision, Haraya 2020 (or Vision 2020). She explained the need to imbibe the spirit of Haraya as the soon-to-be CSSP students enter the academic life within the social sciences and philosophy.

After the dean’s welcome message, the program proceeded with the introduction of each of the eight departments of the college given by several faculty members. Providing an overview of each department were the following: Assistant Professor Felipe P. Jocano, Jr. for the Department of Anthropology; Mr. Engelbert C. Prim for the Department of Geography; Assistant Professor Aaron Abel T. Mallari for the Department of History; Assistant Professor Farah C. Cunanan for the Department of Linguistics; Mr. Jairus D. Espiritu for the Department of Philosophy; Assistant Professor Jan Robert R. Go for the Department of Political Science; Assistant Professor Michelle G. Ong for the Department of Psychology; and Associate Professor Manuel Victor J. Sapitula for the Department of Sociology.

An open forum for both students and parents was allotted for the attendees who had further questions regarding the college and the departments. The department representatives from the CSSPSC facilitated the forum. The forum ended with a picture-taking of all the faculty, parents, and students in attendance.

UP PRO CSSP and the CSSPSC then toured the parents and students around Palma Hall while conducting an interactive session with the UPCAT passers through trivia and games. After the historical tour, the audience was led to the Palma Hall Lobby for a buffet of snacks.
