CSSP Holds First Alumni Reunion

The College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) held its first ever CSSP Alumni Reunion on February 24, 2017 at the Palma Hall Lobby. A Palma Hall Tour was conducted at 4:00 in the afternoon while registration officially began at 5:30 in the afternoon. The CSSP Alumni Reunion was aimed at gathering the numerous alumni of the college for the first time in the history of CSSP.

The program commenced with the singing of the national anthem was led by one of the students of the college, Therese Vilog. After this, the welcome remarks were given by Dean Grace H. Aguiling-Dalisay. Dean Aguiling-Dalisay welcomed the alumni present at the event while explaining that CSSP has come a long way since its founding in 1983. She further explained the official mission-vision statement of the college, Haraya 2020 (or Vision 2020), as one of the recent hallmarks of CSSP and as a common link among all past and future graduates of the social sciences and philosophy in the university.

Two audio-visual presentations were then projected of “CSSP Today”, wherein this showed the recent accomplishments of the college in terms of facilities, centers, projects, among others., and of Haraya 2020, wherein this showed how the official mission-vision was actualized through the various undertakings of the college.

The next part of the program was the recognition of the attendees. The emcees of the reunion, Assistant Professor Jose Antonio R. Clemente and Assistant Professor Jean S. Encinas-Franco, facilitated the getting-to-know portion of the event through a cheer per department and a rollcall of the alumni through their student numbers. Other alumni were then asked to share their past experiences as students and faculty of CSSP, such as the distinguished Professor Noel V. Teodoro formerly from the Department of History.

Dinner was then served to bring out the nostalgic feeling of being a student of UP and of CSSP. Barbeque from the famous “Beach House” and daing na bangus with rice were being catered. Throughout the event, squid balls, fish balls, kikiam, kwek-kwek, and “dirty ice cream”were also served.

While the audience was having their dinner, an intermission number by “Between the Lines – Ileana and Gyle” (composed of Ileana Cobachan and Jergil Gyle Tamayo Gavieres – both CSSP students) was performed through an acoustic song. After this, a game of “Jeopardy” was facilitated by Assistant Professor Francis Joseph A. Dee in which the players came from each table. The categories were about random trivia and jokes about each department.

After the game, Mr. Dee, the main organizer of the reunion and the External Affairs Officer of the college, officially launched the first ever Search for the Outstanding CSSP Alumni to be conducted through the official college website. These nominations for potential outstanding awardees who have graduated from CSSP, whether with a bachelor’s degree and/or a graduate degree, is in preparation for the grand alumni homecoming in 2018. This year will mark the 35th annual founding of CSSP when the outstanding alumni will be awarded. Nominations begin on February 25 to August 31, 2017.  Finally, Mr. Dee recognized and thanked the CSSP alumni core group for the support and assistance provided in the management of the event.
