Understanding Population Heterogeneity in Demographic and Human Capital Dynamics: How Does it matter for the Future Population Outlook?
Dr. Samir K.C.
In a country, age and gender differentials are the two fundamental sources of population heterogeneity considered in almost demographic analysis. Recently, research has demonstrated the importance of educational attainment and place of residence as additional sources of population heterogeneity. This presentation will focus on a case study from India on the impacts of these factors to population size and structure.
Modelling and Projecting Subnational Population Trends in the Philippines: Initial Findings
Dr. Grace T. Cruz, Ms. Christian Joy P. Cruz and Ms. Klarriness Tanalgo
Most Philippine population projections since 1970 show that actual census counts fall below the low scenario projection. Using an R-based multidimensional projection model formulated by the Asian Demographic Research Center and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, this presentation shows results from the analysis of recent trends in subnational population stratified by education and urban/rural residence. Preliminary results from the 2015 multistate projections indicate a close estimate to the official census count relative to the traditional age- and sex- projections.
